TinyTalk Biggleswade & Bedford Baby Signing Classes:

Hello and welcome to TinyTalk Biggleswade & Bedford! My name is Jason and I'm your local TinyTalk teacher and dad to twin TinyTalkers Ned and Edie, who were born in December 2016.

My TinyTalk journey began when Ned and Edie were about five months old when my wife, Charlotte, and I took them to TinyTalk following an amazing taster cIass run by Helen Hine who was then running baby signing classes in the Mid-Bedfordshire area. I'd been interested in baby signing before they were born. It almost seemed too good to be true - the idea that you could communicate effectively with your baby before they were old enough to speak. But it wasn't hype. It took a few months to get their first sign (unsurprisingly they both signed 'food') but then new signs just kept on coming.

Signing was invaluable to us through weaning, at bedtime, even at nappy change time. At just over a year old, when Ned and Edie began to sign each other's names and started to tell us what each other was doing ('Edie's sleeping', 'Ned's had a wee wee!') my sense of wonder and pride just grew and grew. Babies really do have so much to say!

I continued taking Ned and Edie to TinyTalk classes by myself in Biggleswade even after Charlotte had returned to work (yes, it is possible with twins!). By 18 months they both used well in excess of 50 signs. Even now as they're starting to verbalise they're still signing along with their new words.

We went to so many classes throughout the babies' first year, but TinyTalk was the only one we continued for more than a term or two. The babies were so attentive during the taught part of the class and giggled and enjoyed themselves so much during the songs and interactive elements (as did I!) that it never felt like we were learning. Couple that with the social time during the second half of each class, and TinyTalk was the highlight of our week.

When the opportunity to become a TinyTalk teacher arose, I immediately knew this was what I wanted to do. I am passionate about baby signing and to give new parents the prospect of the wonderful experiences baby signing has given us as a family fills me with excitement and purpose.

TinyTalk is a really fun way to start to learn Sign Language. We use British Sign Language as we believe in laying the foundations for your child to develop a lifelong skill and the opportunity to learn a real language. Each week we have a different theme (pets, going out, going to bed etc) and we learn signs by singing well known nursery rhymes and action songs, as well as a sensory activity (bubbles, mirror play, sensory shapes etc). Each class is an hour long split into two halves. The first half is the taught part of the class, with lots of fun and singing, and the second half-hour is social time, allowing you to chat and get to know the other parents, practice signs, ask me about any additional signs (or any other questions you might have), all while enjoying a cuppa and a biscuit, while the babies play with toys and socialise themselves.

Classes can be booked for the whole term (13 weeks) or by the half-term (6/7 weeks depending when half term falls) and this is the only way to guarantee a space in class. You can attend classes on a pay-as-you-go basis, but this is only possible if the class is not already full, and the pay-as-you-go price is £6.50 a class (it works out at only £5.50 a class if you pre-book). Prices are per family, so siblings and additional carers (mums, dads, grandparents etc) are welcome at no extra cost.

I look forward to welcoming you to a TinyTalk baby signing class soon!
