Welcome

We manufacture beeswax and tallow candles for historical orientated businesses and the public. Also provide modern beeswax candles for public. Historical costumed interpretations of candle making (public events, corporate and schools).

About Us

We are a small company who started trading in 2004 but the partnership already had nine years experience in this field.

Extensive research has been undertaken by us into the history of lighting and its consequences on society. As costumed performers we can demonstrate candlemaking with an emphasis on various periods - medieval, Tudor, seventeen century, eighteenth century or Victorian. The demonstrations are accompanied by an interesting talk on lighting during that, and other periods. We have artifacts, some original, some reproductions which we use to give "hands on" experience.

Our customers include English Heritage, National Trust, County councils and local councils, museums, castles, schools, film & media companies, re-enactment Fayres, historical lecturers and re-enactors. We are regular traders at re-enactment Fayres, etc.

Our children''s candle workshops are very popular as they allow ''hands on'' creativity.

Our candles are all handcrafted to a high standard and where handpainted detail is applied, non toxic paints are used, our figurine candles can be produced without wicks (for the younger "candle" user).

Our range of products and services are continually expanding. Please contact us for our latest information.

School Visits: History in your classroom

We, Margaret and Roy, have specialised in studying the history of lighting, up to late Victorian period. We can give an in depth talk on our subject, in the period of your choice (Medieval, Tudor, 17th Century, Georgian, or Victorian). Your students will also be expected to make a candle using materials and techniques that our ancestors used. There will be artifacts to see and touch, most can made to work. Have you seen a 17th century double valve cruzie lamp working? We will work in costumes from your chosen period, and if students wish to "dress" appropriately that would be wonderful and add to the day. All students will have a candle to take home that they have made. Our school visits are well received and all of us have a fun day with students knowing much more about this fascinating subject at the end of the day.

Medieval Chandlers

Do you know the history of medieval candles? As medieval chandlers we can entertain, demonstrate and inform our audiences - your visitors.

19th Century Chandlers at Guernsey

Candy stripes - not very 19th century. The sponsor insisted on the stripes so we endeavoured to look as 19th century as possible and a great day was had by all - the sponsor was delighted. This picture shows that you, the sponsor, get what he wants.
