Our Story - TSKAGB Shotokan Karate Club

Shotokan Karate, friendly clubs based in Hertfordshire for 29 years, join us this week, students ages 4* to 65. Skilled and friendly Instructors understand how to help you develop and succeed.

Founders

Our Chief Instructor Sensei Roy Hazelwood holds a 6th Dan level Black Belt and has continuously trained in Shotokan Karate since 1979. He has competed in National and European tournaments, has trained in Japan and with some of the leading exponents of Shotokan Karate.

His passion has never wavered and his exceptional general and technical knowledge is continually developed through, practice, study and advanced courses. He is pleased to be able to pass his knowledge on to anyone who wishes to learn this fascinating Martial Art, whether they are young or older. His students describe him as awesome, inspiring, patient, friendly, gentle.

Wendy Hazelwood, started training in Shotokan Karate in 1988 and is still a student of Sensei Roy Hazelwood. Having come from a teaching/personal development background, she has developed much of the motivational side of our group. We believe that everyone can use their Shotokan Karate for their own positive benefits, being the best they can be according to the Dojo Kun. All junior students can be awarded merit stickers for their achievement after their weekly training. They can also join our Junior Achievement Programme alongside their physical training in order to understand the philosophy which underpins our Karate. Higher grade junior students can join our Junior Instructor Programme to develop teaching skills for their Karate future.

Through developing links with local schools and community support groups, we have taken the opportunity to support anyone who wishes to practice Karate as a Martial Art and this also fulfils all the outcomes of former government policy Every Child Matters. We have experience of working with students with specific learning difficulties, please feel free to discuss your ideas with us.

TSKAGB

Our group has 17 Hertfordshire based clubs. We specialise in Shotokan Karate, new students ages 4 to 65 can join us every week. We pride ourselves on having opened our first club in 1984 and have continued to grow steadily since that time.

Our Instructors started as beginners, just as you will when joining our group, so understand the dedication and patience required to develop and succeed. All have completed, or are currently completing, our Active Hertfordshire Karate Instructor Programme and hold current CRB Enhanced Disclosure. Fully insured, some hold First Aid Qualifications and have gone on to open their own clubs, choosing to remain under the Active Hertfordshire Karate quality brand.
